Southern hospitality, three 18-hole championship courses, and two very different spa experiences distinguish The Homestead, a landmark resort in Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains since 1766.

Twice named to Golf magazine’s list of Gold Medal Resorts, the Hot Springs property maintains one of the nation’s most historic links, the Old Course, opened in 1892. Designed by the legendary Donald Ross, its abundant contouring and compact greens make for a most challenging round of golf.

Another historic gem, the 1923 Cascades Course, consistently ranks as Virginia’s finest mountain course and as one of the 50 best courses in America. Its mountainous location influences play, especially when golfers use the slope and roll to their advantage.

Newest of the three, the Lower Cascades Course displays a classic design by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The sprawling layout includes wide-open fairways, strategically placed bunkers, severe green contouring, and runway tee boxes.

For over 239 years, visitors have taken the waters at The Homestead’s mineral springs. At the historic Jefferson Pools, visitors can still indulge in a traditional soak. In the European-style spa, which opened in 1892, treatments range from Swedish massage and state-of-the-art facials to more indigenous therapies, including an Allegheny raspberry body scrub, as well as hair and nail care at the full-service salon.

Conference planners appreciate the 72,000 square feet of indoor space, offering 28 meeting rooms and two ballrooms. At the same time, with its horse-drawn carriages and Georgian architecture, The Homestead offers an opulent step back in time to a gentler age.
