Liberty National, a private club and the new host of the Barclays, opened on July 4, 2006, a stirring mix of holes defined by a liberal use of water hazards, knee-high native grasses and imaginative green complexes with devilishly fast putting surfaces.
The views are spectacular. On the 2nd hole, a 219-yard par-3, the Statue of Liberty seems to hover just off the back edge of the green.
Built up from a former industrial landfill and designed by Tom Kite and Bob Cupp, the Liberty National golf course took $150 million to create and is now recognized as the most expensive golf course in the world. The exclusive club offers a heliport, private jet landing areas nearby, top of the range restaurants and accommodation as well as new elite housing developments.
The challenging 7,400 yard course is open to members only, at a hefty fee of $500,000, only the best clubhouse services and facilities can be expected.
